2011 Library Improvement Grant Eligibility & General Guidelines

Eligible entities:
  • Accredited Nebraska public libraries
  • Identified institutional libraries (see list below)
  • Nebraska Regional Library Systems
Other organizations can partner with an eligible entity for purposes of submitting a grant application for a collaborative project.

Libraries at the following state institutions are eligible to apply for Library Improvement Grants:

Beatrice Beatrice State Developmental Center
Geneva Youth Rehabilitation & Treatment Center
Grand Island        Grand Island Veterans Home
Kearney Youth Rehabilitation & Treatment Center
Lincoln Lincoln Correctional Center
Lincoln Diagnostic & Evaluation Center
Lincoln Lincoln Regional Center
Lincoln Nebraska State Penitentiary
McCook Work Ethic Camp
Norfolk Norfolk Regional Center
Omaha Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility
Omaha Omaha Correctional Center
Tecumseh Tecumseh State Correctional Institution
York Nebraska Correctional Center for Women - York

In keeping with the goals of the Library Services and Technology Act, these Library Improvement Grants are intended to help libraries meet the goals of the Nebraska Library Commission's 2008-2012 Long Range Plan.

General Library Improvement Grant Guidelines

Grant funds cannot be used to replace local funding or to support ongoing operations. Grants provide incentives for increased local government or institutional financial support for library services.  

Grant recipients must credit the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Nebraska Library Commission
when undertaking and promoting grant-supported activities by including the following statement in all published materials:

This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.

Grants require at least a twenty-five percent (25%) local match, of which at least 10% must be a cash match.

The minimum grant award is $500.

Grant recipients must sign federal assurances in order to receive grant funds.
