Beginning last fall and continuing this summer, the Library Commission’s Talking Book and Braille Service has been engaged in an outreach campaign using “coupon caddies”—envelope-sized pockets with a magnetic strip. These caddies contain coupons good for “free talking book and magazine library service for Nebraskans who can’t see to read or hold a book.” They also contain a testimonial from Marjory Gloe, one of the Library Commission’s long-time volunteer narrators.
Coupon caddies have been distributed by the hundreds to occupational therapists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and librarians. Care professionals and library staff often serve as intermediaries by connecting individuals who experience a print-related disability with the Talking Book and Braille Service.
