Advisory Committee to the Nebraska Library Commission Talking Book and Braille Service

Nebraska Library Commission
1200 N Street, Suite 120
Crane Room
Lincoln, Nebraska
Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 1:00 p.m.

Main agenda items for the June 5, 2012 meeting include the following but may be modified at such meeting:

  • Welcome; Introductions—committee members please take a few minutes to comment on what brings you to the Advisory Committee.
  • Minutes of the last meeting.
  • Consideration of BARD Policy for Schools and Other Facilities.
  • While all new borrowers are initially set up to receive our newsletter, we are noticing that a significant number are asking to cancel their subscription. Why is the circulation of our newsletter dropping?
  • Our committee’s bylaws were last revised in October 1993. Is it time to review the bylaws to see if revisions are needed?
  • The Library Commission is now drafting its five-year plan (2013-2017) as required under a federal program known as the Library Services and Technology Act. In order to draft our plan, we need to conduct an environmental scan. We would like to use part of our meeting for an exercise to consider the Talking Book and Braille Service in terms of four categories: its strengths, its weaknesses, its opportunities, and its threats.
  • Staff recently attended the National Conference of Librarians Serving Blind and Physically Handicapped Individuals. We will brief you on the highlights.
  • Other items.
  • Date for fall meeting; Adjournment.
