Main agenda items for the November 9, 2016 meeting include the following but may be modified at such meeting:

  • Welcome, Introductions. Please take a minute or so to tell us about yourselves and what brought you to this committee.
  • Approval of minutes, Spring 2016 meeting.
  • New OPAC: The Talking Book and Braille Service has launched a new Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) that patrons can use to add books they would like to their request lists. Scott will explain some of the advantages of using this OPAC.
  • Demo equipment with System Directors: the System Directors for Nebraska’s regional library systems now have demonstration books and machines. Scott will talk about the systems and how this might help with outreach at libraries.
  • Thinking about advertising: We would like help with some questions that might help to focus our next marketing campaign. How do you feel about the phrase “talking books” versus “audiobooks” in marketing? What are things that you like to see in a good website? What makes a website seem easy to use? What features are most important when you are first learning about a new good or service?
  • Dyslexia: TBBS is able to serve Nebraskans with dyslexia that is caused by an “organic dysfunction.” Scott will give an overview of what this means, and we would like to strategize reaching out more to the dyslexic population.
  • Possible dates for Spring 2017 meeting; Adjournment.
