Basic Serials Cataloging - Lincoln 

Description
This workshop provides the basic principles of serials cataloging for original and copy cataloging. The primary focus will be on print serials but some discussion of electronic serials will be included. Topics will include title changes and when to create a new record, what to edit when working with copy, and how to determine the chief source for title transcription. The workshop will look at the proposed CONSER standard record. The workshop will be adapted from sessions of the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program’s courses.

Audience: Library staff with some knowledge of AACR2, MARC records and cataloging.

Lunch is on your own.

This workshop is approved for the NLC Cataloging Certificate Program.

Margaret Mering is the Principal Serials Cataloger and Metadata Librarian at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. She is a certified instructor for the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program. She is a co-author of SCCTP’s Advanced Serials Cataloging Workshop. Each spring, she teaches cataloging at UNO.
