Libraries use authority control to manage the names, uniform titles, series, and subject headings in their catalogs. Participants in this workshop will learn what authority control is and why it is needed, how to read a MARC authority record, how to use OCLC's authority file, and how to keep headings in their local systems up-to-date. Subject heading authority control will focus on the Library of Congress Subject Headings.

Audience: Library staff with some knowledge of AACR2, MARC records, and cataloging.

Lunch is on your own.

This workshop is approved for the NLC Cataloging Certificate Program.
