School Librarians in the Digital Age - Lincoln

This day is geared towards the needs of school librarians, encouraging them to be on the leading edge of their profession.
Workshops are as follows:
9 am Keegan Korf: Maintaining Student Privacy: 5 Things Teachers and Librarians Can Do   Do you know how the apps you're using use and share student information? Learn how to navigate Common Sense's new privacy evaluations and the implications for your school. Discuss the importance of privacy and data use for educators. Share practices at your school and learn from others. 10 am Lynn Kleinmeyer Leading the Charge: Teacher Librarians' Role in OER   Teacher Librarians are uniquely situated to support the #GoOpen movement. Teacher Librarians have long been curators of resources and believe in access to and ethical use of  information. During the session, Teacher Librarians will get an overview of OER, explore several Openly-Licensed Educational Resources and share ideas of how to leverage your expertise as a Teacher Librarian to support OER resources in your schools . 11 am Judy Henning Strategies for Identifying Fake News   With the proliferation of fake (or, at least, dubious) news, students need to know the strategies necessary to be a good consumer of information. This involves fine-tuning their critical thinking skills and using prior knowledge when determining the validity of research information. This presentation will give school librarians ideas and information they can incorporate in their information literacy curriculum.
