CLEARINGHOUSE NEWS
Nebraska State Government Resources on the Internet
The Nebraska State Government internet world wide web page is
hosted at the Library Commission. It's purpose is to organize
and point to information which has been made available on the
internet by Nebraska state agencies, state elected officials,
the legislature, and state-funded colleges and universities. It's
internet address is http://www.state.ne.us. Recently this page
has undergone some extensive remodeling, and some new features
have been added:
A keyword search feature can be used to find sites that
have certain types of information. Entering the keyword "fish"
will point users to the Game and Parks site as well as the Nebraska
State Museum at UNL, for example. A new subject arrangement
groups sites into categories of information such as business,
education, taxes, etc. State-funded entities which have an internet
site are also listed alphabetically for users who want
to browse by agency or college names. A guestbook has been
added for people to leave comments about the page and read recent
comments by other users. There are also pointers to contact
information for state agency personnel (names and telephone
numbers), similar information pages for other states, and
other Nebraska resources such as local government web sites,
gopher sites, and other sites in Nebraska communities.
The remodeling process will continue as design features are added
and feedback from users is gathered . Please browse the reorganized
page and send your comments and questions to us or register them
in the guestbook.

Governor's Initiatives & Budget Adjustments, FY 1995-1997
Biennium (document # B-22) gives and overview of the State's
financial condition, gives a brief list of the Governor's major
proposals, and shows the projected balances in the State General
Fund and the Cash Reserve Fund if the Governor's recommendations
are adopted. Since the State of Nebraska operates on a biennial
budget, the Governor's recommendations include items for both
individual fiscal years of the biennium.
Current Populations Reports, Population Projections of the United States by Age, Sex, Race, and Hispanic Origin: 1995 to 2050 (document # B-27*) provides numbers which are based on a estimated July 1, 1994, resident population consistent with the 1990 census as enumerated and are projected forward using the cohort-component method with alternative assumptions for future fertility, life expectancy, and net immigration levels.
For each of the components of change--fertility, life expectancy,
and net immigration--three different assumptions about the future
are applies. The series using the middle assumption for each component
is designated the "middle series". Projections of the
middle series are shown annually by age, sex, race, and Hispanic
origin to 2010, and quinquennially, thereafter to 2050. Nine principal
alternative series are shown by 5-year age groups and by race
and Hispanic origin, quinquennially from 1995 to 2050.
Alternative Transportation Fuels Handbook (document # B-37)
provides public and private fleet managers in Nebraska with basic
yet comprehensive information concerning alternative fuels and
vehicle technologies. Topics covered in the Handbook include an
evaluation of the various alternative fuels, an overview of the
legislative and regulatory framework supporting increased use
of alternative fuels, sources of financial assistance for alternative
fuel vehicle acquisitions, conversion and infrastructure development
and barriers which may constrain efforts to promote widespread
adoption of alternative fuel vehicles. To better assess the potential
role and viability of alternative fuels in Nebraska, it is necessary
to examine transportation energy use trends in the state and their
resulting impact on the economy and environment
Employment Outlook: 1994-2005, Job Quality and other Aspects
of Projected Employment Growth (document # B-61*) provides
an overview of industry and occupational employment projections
for the 1994-2005 period. The discussion focuses on industries
and occupations that will generate the largest portion of the
projected job growth. The bulletin also discusses the implications
of employment growth ion the quality of jobs in term of earnings
and on the education and training requirements of jobs that will
be generated over the 1994-2005 period.
Agricultural Property Taxation in a Nine-State Region: 1993
(document # B-62) objective is to estimate what the annual real
and tangible personal property tax liability would be in various
states for a hypothetical farm or ranch having full market values
of: (1) $500,000 for agricultural real estate (e.g., land and
buildings); and (2) $200,000 to tangible personal property used
in farming or ranching (e.g., machinery and equipment), of which
only $70,000 remains to be depreciated for federal income tax
purposes.
State Government Cash and Revolving Funds, Fund Descriptions,
Schedules of Fees and Taxes, Summaries of Fund Revenue, Expenditures
and Balances (document # B-86) is fifth in a series of reports
published every other year since 1987. Since all fees and other
revenue accruing to the state are ultimately deposited into a
fund for safekeeping until expended, this report was organized
to be fund specific. The information is provided for each cash
and revolving fund currently in use by state agencies and includes
the following: A description of the lawful uses of money contained
in each fund and the statute providing for its creation; a listing
of deposited fees, taxes, etc., along with their statutory authority;
and a fund summary which includes beginning and ending balances
as well as a breakdown of major revenue and expenditure categories.
This report also catalogs miscellaneous General Fund revenue sources
which generate under $5 million of revenue annually.
Omaha Conditions Survey: 1994 (document # B-117) is the fourth in a series of studies conducted by the Center for Public Affairs Research (CPAR) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The studies are part of CPAR's initiative to monitor and improve the processes operating in Nebraska's urban areas by developing quality information and making it available to those who need it.
Each Omaha Conditions Survey measures public perception of the
quality of life in the Omaha area together with demographic features.
In addition, each survey typically focuses on three or four special
topics centered around current issues. Focus topics for the 1994
edition were library services, assess to information technology,
community contact with UNO, and crime and police issues.
