Databases for State of Nebraska Employees
In
addition to providing services to Nebraska libraries the Library Commission
provides reference and information
services for the work-related needs of
Nebraska state executive, legislative, and judicial branch
employees. With funding provided by the
Governor and Legislature, the Library Commission has purchased access to a
variety of databases which state employees can access from their desktops. They have been scripted to recognize IP addresses of state agency computers so
that a user id and password is not required.
They can be accessed from a World Wide Web page at nlc.nebraska.gov/netserv/firstsearch.html.
If
you are a state employee and scripted access does not work from your
computer, please contact Allana Novotny at the Library
Commission 402-471-6681, (toll-free in Nebraska 1-800-307-2665) for
assistance. For help in using any of
the databases, or if you would like to have us do a search for you, contact the
Library Commission reference desk at 402-471-4016, (toll-free in Nebraska 1-800-307-2665)
.
ABI Inform: Designed to facilitate the process of
identifying magazine and journal articles on business and management topics,
ABI/INFORM Global also provides substantial coverage of issues related to public
policy, community and rural development, urban planning, human resources,
marketing, finance, taxation, economics, and technology. ABI/INFORM Global
indexes and abstracts articles from over 1,500 publications, with coverage for
some titles extending back to 1970. It also provides full text articles from
over 600 of the most popular and important of these publications.
Books in Print with Reviews: Allows users to retrieve data on over 1.9
million in-print, forthcoming, out-of-print, and out-of-stock publications like
its print counterpart. The database also includes over 288,000 online full text
book reviews! Typical records include title, author, ISBN, price, and
publication information. Users may search using a variety of access points,
including author, title, subject, grade level, and price. The database also
includes a Publisher Information component, enabling users to access
information on individual publishers (e.g., addresses, phone numbers, return
policies, discounts, and products).
Electric Library: Provides full-text access to a wide variety
of source material, including: magazine, journal, and newspaper articles; wire
service stories; television and radio transcripts; photographs; maps; and
reference books (almanacs, dictionaries, subject encyclopedias, etc.). The
database supports both natural language and Boolean searching and is designed
to provide novice users with easy access to online information.
Facts
on File: Brings
together content from seven core reference databases to answer questions about
events, issues, statistics and people of the last 20 years and delivers
in-depth features on "Historic Events" drawn from the 60-year Facts
On File archive.
