Detailed Guide for Standard Player Controls
This guide is organized by button type and will describe the location and functionality of each button.
Power Button:
Location: Round, red button on the left side of the player, near the front. The letter P in braille is printed to the right of the button.
Function:
- Turns player on and off when player is not plugged in.
- When no cartridge is loaded, pressing the power button will describe the power button function and report remaining battery capacity.
- When cartridge is loaded, pressing the power button will report the name of book and current reading position.
- When power button is held down for approximately seven seconds, you’ll hear a beep indicating the player has reset.
Play/Stop Button:
Location: Green, square button located near the front of the player. The letter P is printed in braille above the top right corner of the button.
Function:
- Starts and stops the book. The book will resume where it left off.
- When no cartridge is inserted, pressing and holding play/stop enters and exits the built-in User Guide.
- When a cartridge is loaded, pressing and holding play enters and exists Bookshelf mode so you can access multiple books or magazine articles on a cartridge. Accessing Bookshelf will tell you the number of books available on the cartridge. Pressing fast forward and rewind will let you navigate between bookshelf items. Press play again to choose an option.
Sleep Button:
Location: Gray, crescent moon shaped button located directly above the Play/Stop button. The letter S is printed in braille to the left of the button.
Function:
- This sets a timer to automatically shut off the player. Pressing the button once will set a timer for 15 minutes. Press twice for 30 minute. Three times for 45 minutes. The maximum is four presses for an hour timer.
- Press play to cancel the sleep timer.
- The player's serial number and software version will be announced when you press sleep ten times with no cartridge inserted.
- Press play/stop to cancel serial number reading.
Fast Forward Button:
Location: Light grey, triangular button with raised pointer edges, pointing right, located to the right of the Play/Stop Button. The letter F is printed in braille below the button.
Function:
- Moves reading position forward.
- Tap Fast Forward once to move foward 5 seconds. Hold it down to fast foward faster.
- Player will beep between chapters during fast fowarding.
- In bookshelf mode, this button will move foward between the list of books. Hold down fast forward to move to the end of the bookshelf list.
Rewind Button:
Location: Light grey, triangular button with raised pointer edges, pointing left, located to the left of the Play/Stop Button. The letter R is printed in braille below the button.
Function:
- Moves reading position backward.
- Tap rewind once to move backward 5 seconds. Hold it down to rewind faster.
- Player will beep between chapters during fast rewind.
- In bookshelf mode, this button will move backward between the list of books. Hold down rewind to move to the end of the bookshelf list.
Volume Up and Down Buttons:
Location: Yellow, triangular buttons pointing up and down. Located to the right of the fast forward button. The letter V is printed in braille to the left of the volume buttons.
Function:
- Lowers or raises volume. Has 15 different volume levels. Press once to lower or raise one level.
- The player will beep twice when the minimum or maximum volume is reached.
Tone Up and Down Buttons
Location: Light gray, triangular shaped buttons, pointing up and down. Located to the left of the speaker. The letter T is printed in braille to the right of the tone buttons.
Function:
- Adjusts tone of the reading voice. Has 11 different tone levels.
- A single beep plays when tone reaches normal level. A double beep is heard when minimum and maximum tone levels are reached.
Speed Up and Down Buttons
Location: Light gray, triangular shaped buttons, pointing up and down. Located to the right of the speaker. The letter M is printed in braille to the right of the tone buttons.
Function:
- Raises and lowers the speed of the reading voice. Has 16 different speed levels.
- A single beep is heard when speed is at normal level. A double beep is heard when minimum and maximum speed levels are reached.
