Libraries can help introduce people to the basic principles of drones, and provide additional resources to learn about drones and related technologies.

The Librarian's Preparation Guide is designed to get beginners up to speed with the bare essentials of this drones, specifically using the Holy Stone HS720. This will prepare you with the information and skills necessary to lead a drone-related session in the library. Additional resources will be provided to learn as much as you like.

This, and many other small commercial drones only have a 15-20 minutes battery life. This means we cannot actively use the drone in all parts of each activity. Instead we will focus on different applications for drone technology, adapting drones for use in different contexts, and using drones to solve real problems. We can also explore drone design and coding. The idea is to get started, then follow curiosities wherever they may lead.
Here are a few drone-related activities to try before, during, and after getting your drone in the mail:
- Drones in Agriculture (Grades 6-12): PBS Learning Media offers this drone lesson plan and materials for Grades 6-12.
- Drones in High-Tech Farming (Grades 3-5): The National Agriculture in the Classroom offers this lesson plan with support materials for Grades 3-5.
- Designing Drones: The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers offers this leson plan made by engineering experts. Learn how to design and test drones using low-cost tools.
- Using Drones to Assess Damage: The IEEE also offers a lesson plan for using drones for practical purposes. This also uses low-cost materials.
- Drone Engineering Activities: The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research put together a set of drone-related lesson plans and activities for middle and high schoolers.
Real World Problems
When framed properly, even small drones can help learners make connections between drones and real world problems. This is an inspiration page showing different ways drones have helped us solve the world's most pressing problems.
