CONTENTdm - December's Featured Collections

Entry Categories: Digitization & Preservation

Organizations worldwide are using CONTENTdm® Digital Collection Management Software to create thousands of outstanding digital collections and to provide easy access to their unique holdings.

This month, four collections from the CONTENTdm Collection of Collections are featured on the CONTENTdm Web site. The featured collections for December are a Historic Sheet Music Digital Collection, the Bear River Watershed Historical Collection, the Charles Pitcher Spooner California Stereograph Collection and the Veterans History Project.

Included in the collection information below is a link to each organization’s record in the OCLC WorldCat Registry. OCLC’s WorldCat Registry allows libraries worldwide to manage and organize their data for vendors and third parties by creating and maintaining a comprehensive institutional profile in a single, Web-accessible location.

Historic Sheet Music Digital Collection
University of Iowa
This collection creates a snapshot of the music Eastern Iowans played and sang in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Much of the music was originally housed at the Cedar Rapids Public Library and then dispersed to area colleges and universities upon its withdrawal from that library. Included in this digital collection are a number of songs about Iowa, such as "Way Down in Iowa," "Iowa Corn Song," and "I'm From Iowa (That Beautiful Iowa Song)."

Bear River Watershed Historical Collection
Utah State University
The Bear River Watershed’s geography, history, and development are the primary focus of this collection of images, maps, papers, diaries, plat books, and reports. Includes photos of the Bear River taken from 1860s to the 1990s, records of local irrigation companies, diaries that record weather conditions, research on the societal impact of reclamation development in the Bear River Basin, and more.

Charles Pitcher Spooner California Stereograph Collection
University of the Pacific
This collection consists of stereographs taken by John Pitcher Spooner in California between approximately 1875 and 1905. Most of the photos are of Stockton and include downtown businesses and buildings, private homes, local farms, the Stockton Rural Cemetery, and the California State Hospital and Insane Asylum.

Veterans History Project
Grand Valley State University
The Library of Congress established the Veterans History Project in 2001 to collect memories, accounts, and documents of U.S. war veterans and related civilians. This digital collection contains interviews conducted by the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) History Department that document the experiences of local veterans.

These are just a few of the many outstanding digital collections created by CONTENTdm users.
