The H.W. Wilson Company is offering Nebraska libraries trial access to the following two databases through April 30, 2009:
- Current Issues: Reference Shelf Plus presents a carefully-selected database of full-text articles from key publications covering a variety of current social, scientific, health, political, and global issues. The topics are chosen to make up a well-rounded overview, and are then organized by subtopic for easy access. The database features current articles with periodic updates, plus the option for users to do further research with predetermined searches within WilsonWeb or on the Internet.
Wide-ranging, informative articles are hand-picked to provide thorough research results. Topics are selected to suit the needs of school and university researchers, reflecting timely issues and controversies. Researchers will appreciate the balanced coverage of some 20-30 articles per topic, carefully selected for quality and comprehensiveness by the Wilson editorial staff. Current topics and subtopics are occasionally updated with outstanding new articles, plus users can easily get additional new articles with the preset WilsonWeb or Internet search. Entirely new topics and subtopics will be regularly added to the database.
- Graphic Novels Core Collection - For collection development, readers’ advisory, curriculum support, and selection and purchasing, the Graphic Novels Core Collection addresses the growing popularity of this literary form. It highlights approximately 2,000 recommended titles with descriptive and evaluative annotations (including review excerpts and awards the title has won), plus cover art. Standards for rating material by age appropriateness are strictly applied, plus all titles are searchable by author, title, subject, genre, and grade level.
Entries link to additional review excerpts from Wilson’s Book Review Digest Plus database. A very powerful database, particularly when searched simultaneously with other Wilson Core Collections and other databases like Readers’ Guide.
