NEBASE Members to Transition to BCR

As announced previously, the Nebraska Library Commission’s NEBASE department will cease to exist as an OCLC network in July 2009. Under OCLC’s new Partner structure, OCLC member libraries may go to any OCLC partner or directly to OCLC for billing, ordering and training.

After talks with several OCLC networks, consultation with the NEBASE Advisory Council and much consideration, we have made the recommendation to transfer Nebraska OCLC libraries to BCR (Bibliographical Center for Research) for the initial transition in billing, renewals and ordering. At any time after August 1st, libraries may request to be transferred to another OCLC Partner or go directly to OCLC.

BCR, founded in 1935 and headquartered in Aurora, Colorado, has been a provider of OCLC products and services since 1976 and will continue to be an OCLC Partner for billing, marketing and training. OCLC member libraries using BCR’s services currently are found in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Staff from Nebraska OCLC member libraries will be able to attend BCR’s OCLC training—online or in-person at any location—at BCR member pricing. Libraries may learn about OCLC training opportunities through BCR’s training calendar or through a new national training calendar that OCLC will host starting in July 2009.

Under the new Partner system, Nebraska OCLC member libraries will be billed for OCLC cataloging subscriptions, ILL subscriptions, etc., without any added network administrative or membership fees. Price quotes for the coming fiscal year will be issued next week.

NEBASE will continue to handle invoicing through the June 2009 activity (invoices sent in July). Renewals, ordering, training and technical support will continue through June 30, 2009. Effective with your July invoices (sent in August 2009), your invoices will come from BCR. As of July 1, 2009, all technical support calls should go directly to OCLC (1-800-848-5800) and BCR will provide billing support assistance.

The Nebraska Library Commission will continue to coordinate CatExpress and WebDewey group purchases. NLC will also continue to provide access to statewide database subscriptions through NebraskAccess. And NLC will continue to negotiate vendor discounts and purchasing of other electronic resources for Nebraska libraries individually or in groups.
