Mini-grants are available to entities to install a Little Free Library (LFL), or for materials to re-stock an existing LFL. Our project focus is on unserved (areas without a public library) and underserved (areas with a library that might have minimal open hours) areas. While the materials made available in the LFL may be broad ranging, our project focus is to improve early childhood literacy. For applicants seeking only materials, grants are available up to $250. For applicants seeking a LFL box/post and materials, grants are available up to $500.
This project is made possible with grant funds from the Nebraska Library Commission, and the support of the Little Free Library Organization.
*NOTE: The grant deadline has now passed.
Any community within Nebraska is eligible to apply. Local governments or local civic institutions (e.g. Lions clubs, scout organizations, Rotary, Kiwanis, and others) are all welcome to apply. You MUST have permission to install the LFL location, either from the public entity (e.g. city/town) or private entity (if installing on private property).
Grant recipients must acknowledge the Nebraska Library Commission (NLC) when promoting their LFL project. Any announcements, public relations pieces, or other communication about the project must use the following statement: "This program is sponsored in part by funding provided by the Nebraska Library Commission, and with the financial support of the Little Free Library Organization". The Library Commission will provide grant recipients with bookmarks and flyers to promote the project, and to acknowledge NLC funding.
