Robert E. Lee Herdman

R.E. Lee Herdman served as commissioner of the Nebraska Public Library Commission from June 27, 1901 until November 9, 1904. He was Clerk of the Supreme Court and librarian of the State Law Library. He held the post of commissioner by virtue of his position according to the bill that established the Commission. He left the State Law Library in 1904.

Herdman played an active role as secretary of the state democratic committee for eight or nine years. He was secretary to William J. Bryan during his first presidential campaign.

Governor Charles W. Bryan named Herdman as receiver for the Lion Bonding and Surety Company of Omaha. He resigned as soon as he had liquidated the affairs of the company as far as possible.

Herdman died in Omaha after an illness that lasted several years.
