Malcolm G. Wyer was a member of the Nebraska Public Library Commission's board from 1914 until 1924. He was elected president of the commission in 1916.

He was the younger brother of James I. Wyer, member of the first board of commissioners. He became director of the library at the University of Nebraska in 1914. He served two years (1916-17) as president of the Nebraska Library Association.

He was an assistant to the director of the American Library Association's Library War Service and worked in Washington, D.C. on leave of absence from the University in 1918. He considered the possibility of resigning his position as president of the commissioners, but in fact he continued as president until June of 1923.
