NebraskAccess Linking and Authentication

In August 2022, the Library Commission announced the addition of new K12 resources and a major redesign to the NebraskAccess website. The databases listed below, along with their corresponding eBook Collections, were added to each participating library’s EBSCO account. The Explora Secondary Interface was also added to allow users to search multiple high school resources, including a collection of Topic Overviews customized for grades 6-12, at the same time.

  • MAS Complete
  • MAS Reference eBook Collection
  • Middle Search Plus
  • Middle Search Reference eBook Collection
  • Explora for High Schools (Explora Secondary)

We have taken the opportunity provided by the addition of these resources to create additional database access pages designed to improve user experience. There are now multiple options available to help librarians direct users to the appropriate resources for their needs.

  • NebraskAccess (nebraskaccess.nebraska.gov) - Includes links to Databases for Nebraskans and the Websites Selected by Librarians.
  • All NebraskAccess Databases  - Alphabetical list of all of the databases including those designed for adult and academic users. A unique NebraskAccess password will be issued for this page.
  • High School Databases  - Databases selected and customized to meet the everyday research needs of high school students. A unique NebraskAccess password will be issued for this page.
  • Elementary/Middle School Databases  - Databases selected and customized to meet the everyday research needs of elementary and middle school students. A unique NebraskAccess password will be issued for this page.
  • Databases for Nebraskans - This page includes links to all three database access pages listed above. It also features a prominent password box at the top of the page. Users may enter a NebraskAccess password or Driver’s License Number into the box, at which point they will be taken directly to the corresponding access page.
  • Links to individual databases – Libraries may also choose to link directly to individual databases.

These updates to our website may require libraries and users to update links and bookmarks. Additional information about updating your links can be found on the scenario pages linked below.

Libraries may also need to revisit how their users are authenticated to use the NebraskAccess databases. We know figuring out the best way to link to the databases and understanding the authentication process can be overwhelming. In an effort to simplify this process, we’ve put together different scenarios based on library type and/or authentication options. Each scenario will describe the linking and authentication options we think will work best. If you need help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Please select the scenario that bests fits your situation to learn more about authentication and linking to the NebraskAccess databases.

Scenario 1: Library Type: any

Authentication Options: Only use NebraskAccess Passwords. This means you can’t search the databases in the library without entering a NebraskAccess password.

We believe this scenario will mainly apply to small public libraries, small private schools, special libraries, or any library that either cannot use IP recognition for NebraskAccess or prefers to use only passwords

Scenario 2: Library Type: public libraries

Authentication Options: IP, authentication through your catalog, and/or NebraskAccess password We believe this scenario will mainly apply to medium and large public libraries.

Scenario 3: Library Type: community colleges, colleges, universities, institutions of higher education

Authentication Options: You have already set up your own authentication method (such as a proxy server), in addition to IP authentication. May occasionally use NebraskAccess passwords.

Scenario 4: Library Type: school libraries

Authentication Options: IP, Single Sign On, and/or NebraskAccess passwords
