Cataloging Services
Cataloging Certificate Program
The Nebraska Library Commission
Cataloging Certificate Program encourages technical services library staff from
all types of libraries to
learn more about cataloging and improve their skills through a series of
workshops. Two levels of Certificates are available: Basic and Advanced. These
Certificates show current and future employees that you have practical and
up-to-date skills in technical services.
The Cataloging Certificate Program
does not replace the Public Librarian Certification Program but is a separate
program to recognize staff from all library types for continuing education in
cataloging skills. However, all
workshops may also be applied to Continuing Education hours.
Some workshops
will be offered online as well as in person. For online workshops to count
toward the Certificate, they must be attended live.
Types of Certificates
Basic: All participants are required to complete
the Understanding MARC 21 Bibliographic Records workshop plus four additional
workshops from the approved list below. The workshops must be completed within a
three-year timeframe starting after May 2007.
*Two exceptions:
staff
who took the Understanding MARC 21 Bibliographic Records or Dewey Decimal
Classification workshops live online or in-person with Devra Dragos or Sharon
Mason in 2005, 2006, or 2007 will automatically receive credit if participating
in the Certificate program.
Advanced: All
participants are required to obtain the Basic
Certificate and then complete four additional workshops from the approved list below. The
four workshops must be completed within a three-year timeframe.
