Cataloging Certificate Program

The Nebraska Library Commission Cataloging Certificate Program encourages technical services library staff from all types of libraries to learn more about cataloging and improve their skills through a series of online classes. Two levels of Certificates are available: Basic and Advanced. These Certificates show current and future employees that you have practical and up-to-date skills in technical services.

The Cataloging Certificate Program does not replace the Public Librarian Certification Program but is a separate program to recognize staff from all library types for continuing education in cataloging skills. However, all classes may also be applied to Continuing Education hours.

Participation is limited to Nebraska residents or those who are employed by a Nebraska library.

Types of Certificates

Basic: All participants are required to complete the Understanding MARC 21 Bibliographic Records workshop plus four additional online classes from the approved list below. The workshops must be completed within a three-year timeframe starting after May 2007.

Advanced: All participants are required to obtain the Basic Certificate and then complete four additional online classes from the approved list below. The four workshops must be completed within a three-year timeframe.
