Governor's Hearing Room

Governor's Hearing Room
-Nebraska's Memorial Capitol; Leonard R. Nelson, 1931, p. 101-103. State Capitol Archives

This room was the scene of the first meeting of the Nebraska Public Library Commission after passage of SF 273 in 1935. It was part of the Governor's suite of four rooms in the newly constructed state capitol. It was used for pardon board hearings, investigations and committee meeting.

Many of the original furnishings are still in use in the room. The original half circle table of solid Nebraska black walnut, the Spanish hand-tooled leather covered chairs, the rose colored tapestry with the modified interpretation of the central portion of the seal, the four light fixtures on the walls, and the fireplace with its carved replicas of corn and the Roman fasces with the scales of justice are still to be seen in the room. The carpet was replaced in 1999.
