Something for Everyone @ your libraryTM
April 19, 2004 - It's National Library Week, a time
to rediscover all that Nebraska's libraries, librarians, and library workers
have to offer and why there is Something for everyone @ your libraryTM.
Nebraska libraries join the American Library Association in
encouraging our customers to learn more about new and traditional resources
available in libraries across our state. Across Nebraska libraries are
celebrating National Library Week with special events. You can enjoy an evening
of poetry in Rushville, or a program sponsored by the Nebraska Humanities
Council in Sidney. Ogallala will have a "fine-free" week. Hastings Public
Library will hold a Read-a-thon. Omaha Public Library will announce the "Omaha
Reads" project.
"Libraries provide a world of opportunity for all people,
regardless of age, income or background," says Nebraska Library Commission
Director Rod Wagner. "Whether you're checking out the latest bestseller,
researching your college term paper, getting homework help or using the
Internet, the library has the resources and staff to help you find what you are
looking for."
"National Library Week is a great time to see what's new at
your school or public library and how librarians and library workers can provide
you with the resources and services you need when you need them," says Omaha
Public Library Director Rivkah Sass. "With recent studies showing that watching
television may cause attention deficit in young children, I recommend that you
turn off the television visit your nearest library and read to your baby!" Sass
adds, "We encourage all community members to come check us out."
